Community Service Award: Judy Nilsen
Judges’ comments: “Judy Nilsen’s work is as successful as her predecessors who work in the genre of ‘Assemblage,’ (i.e. L. Nevelson, Betye Saar, etc.). Her community outreach shows she is dedicated to her craft and to her vision as a life-long Artist.”
The Pauline Award: Margo Von Phul
Judges’ comments: “Margo shows her creativity both in her assemblage works and in her pen and ink drawings. Her intricate representations of animals in her coloring book for children is an innovative and interactive way to inspire the imagination of children.”
The Legacy – The Pauline award is named for someone who turned down a career in art in order to become a teacher and be self supporting. She touched many lives by teaching art and nurturing talent amongst the handicapped, as they discovered joy in artistic accomplishments.
The Patricia Crosby Hinds Award: Colleen M. Kelly
Judges’ comments: “Her Cast Bronze works are outstanding, and her portfolio shows a high level of knowledge and dedication to her craft. She is successful because of her commitment to her work. She has, and will, continue to do well.”
The Legacy – As a Professor Emeritus of Art, Pat knows first hand how important it is to support students of all ages, and that is why she has created this annual award.
The Rose Award: Anke Gladnick
Judges’ comments: “No matter what field she will work in, Anke has great underlying classical ability.”
The Legacy – The Rose Award is named for a woman who didn’t start painting until she was 70. She was talented in multiple genres, and had a strong yet playful spirit. We know that sometimes life gets in the way of our dreams, and these awards are designed to help artists of all ages to pursue their talent.
Again, congratulations to all of the 2014 Scholarship Recipients!
